Richard PRAUSE: "Asia caught us in very last minute"

16/04/2010 - In the repeated thriller scenario that we already had seen in Istanbul last year, elite from two Continents switched their rules at the HYUNDAI Asia-Europe All Stars Series Event in Beijing. After 10 regular matches and 11th additional encounter Asia took the honor of winning the first leg in 2010. Europe has been defeated 5:6 on aggregate after two days of fierce battles.

Michale MAZE of Denmark was the hero of the first day after great win against WANG Liqin of China, whilst legendary Swede Jorgen PERSSON shined on the second day of the Event. Jorgen beat YANG Zi of Singapore on Tuesday and then gave the only victory on second day to Europe after he overcame JOO Se Hyuk of Korea. In additional duel, he drew Jun MIZUTANI of Japan and suffered defeat after great fight in match that went full distance.

The European side was lead by German coach Richard PRAUSE. "It was very close tournament. Unfortunately for us, we did not took advantage of all opportunities that we did two days earlier. Asia caught us in very last minute," explained coach PRAUSE to DTTB media officer Simone HINZ.

Speaking about the HYUNDAI Asia-Europe All Stars Series Event German expert said: "It is very interesting format of play. All matches are on very high level and it is good for the sport and for the spectators."

In European team Vladimir SAMSONOV beat Jun MIZUTANI at the opening day and suffered defeat against WANG Liqin in second match. Dimitrij OVTCHAROV of Germany also has 1:1 score with one victory against CHEUNG Yuk of Hong Kong and defeat against YANG Zi of Singapore.

MAZE beat WANG and lost against MIZUTANI, whilst Werner SCHLAGER of Austria in two full distance matches has been defeated against JOO Se Hyuk and CHEUNG Yuk.
